Indigenous tomato storage system in Bangladesh (Gazipur): Store for two month naturally (No chemical used)

Today I have worked for a project (End-line survey on Income Generation Project through ICT) in the area of Kapasia under Gazipur district. I have visited so many farmers’ house for this survey in this locality. In this time I have felt interest on a local method of Tomato storage. It was so simple but I liked it. I thing this system developed naturally among the farmer. It’s like a story…………..

Once a farmer uprooted a tomato plant and hang on a branch of tree beside the field unconsciously.  All other tomato harvested from field and took to his house. After some days he came back to the field and observed that all the tomato with the plant still remain fresh but the tomato that he took to his house are rotten. From this event he learned something and next year he does not harvest all tomato from field. He harvested some the plant including root and kept hanging on rope inside and outside of his house. Those tomatoes were fresh for two month! Yes More than two month those tomatoes were fresh………….not only for his consumption but also for late selling at a high price.
This is like a continuous harvesting process where all tomato is not ripe at a time. As a result farmer can consume it for long days. Main problem is tomato may be shrinking or dry but if you keep it in the water for sometimes than it regains its good look. This method is mainly applied at late seasons after main harvest complete.

It is just an endogenous method but I think it could be develop by some scientific research. I hope someone will feel interested on this post and a scope of working will be created.
